Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore on Tuesday led a protest at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, demanding the release of a discharge certificate for Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye.”
Raye, a female corps member, is said to have completed all requirements for the mandatory one-year national service but has yet to receive her certificate.
Sowore was joined by other activists, including human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who represents Raye in the matter.
The protest followed Sowore’s earlier social media post vowing to fight for justice on her behalf.
The activists marched to the NYSC headquarters, insisting that the delay was unjust and calling for immediate issuance of the certificate.
They stressed that the NYSC must fulfill its obligation without further delay, noting that the discharge certificate is vital for Raye’s future opportunities.
