The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), to advance climate-resilient farming in Nigeria.

The agreement, signed Monday at NiMet headquarters in Abuja, will see both organisations develop climate-smart weather tools, train farmers, and promote technologies that strengthen agricultural value chains against climate change.

NiMet Director-General, Prof. Charles Anosike, said the partnership would provide farmers with timely and accurate climate information.

“For agriculture to be truly climate-resilient, access to reliable weather and climate data is essential.

“This MoU allows us to combine our expertise with AATF to deliver impactful solutions,” he stated.

AATF Regional Director, Dr. Jean Tignegre, said the foundation’s mission is to remove barriers preventing smallholder farmers from accessing modern technologies.

He noted the collaboration would help farmers adapt to climate challenges while improving food security and livelihoods.

The MoU covers climate-smart tools for women and youth-led agribusinesses, training in climate-smart farming, technical support in targeted areas, and joint funding proposals.

It also establishes frameworks for transparent execution, joint planning, and mandate retention for both parties.

The agreement runs until January 31, 2028, with an option for renewal.
