The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has debunked reports that it demolished the Panorama Recreational Park in Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, clarifying that only illegal shanties around the facility were removed.

Director of Development Control, Muktar Galadima, gave the clarification yesterday during the Operation City Sanitation exercise at UTC, Garki.

He said the park’s core facilities, including the playground, gym, and lounge remain untouched.

According to Galadima, the cleanup targeted makeshift structures allegedly used by miscreants and scavengers.

“It is only those makeshift structures that were removed,” he stated, adding that demolition notices were issued as far back as October 2023, with a final notice served in February 2025.

Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communication, Lere Olayinka, explained that the exercise at Jazz and Blues Entertainment, Panorama Recreational Park, and parts of Wuse Zone 3 was part of a broader effort to dismantle criminal hideouts in the capital city.

Director of the Command and Control Unit, Peter Olumuji, noted that the operation has already curbed crime in the affected areas.

“Since we started, the crime rate has reduced drastically,” he said, adding that security agencies are also moving to target other potential hideouts where criminals might relocate.
