Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has called for the club to bolster their attacking options following Sunday’s Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace.
The Reds, tipped as favourites at Wembley, were beaten 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Despite the disappointment, there were positives for Liverpool, including impressive displays from Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.
However, Liverpool’s attacking threat dipped noticeably after Ekitike was substituted.
Speaking after the match, Van Dijk noted that recent high-profile departures have left gaps in the squad.
“We just lost Darwin (Núñez), he went to Saudi, and we lost Lucho [Luis Díaz] to Bayern.
“I think there’s always room for an attacker to strengthen us, so let’s see what the window brings in terms of the balance of the team,” the Dutch defender said.
Liverpool will now turn their focus to the Premier League opener as the transfer window enters its final weeks.
