President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), for retaining the World Health Organization’s (WHO), Maturity Level 3 status after a re-benchmarking exercise conducted from May 28 to 30.
The status, first attained in 2022, confirms NAFDAC as a stable, well-functioning regulatory authority for medicines and vaccines, making it the first in Africa to achieve this feat among non-producing countries.
In a statement by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu hailed NAFDAC’s professionalism, describing the recognition as “a boost to Nigeria’s credibility in global health security and pandemic preparedness.”
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving access to safe and effective medicines, noting that the milestone aligns with his Renewed Hope Agenda for healthcare reform.
The President cited ongoing efforts to upgrade primary health centres, expand health insurance coverage, and support NAFDAC’s drive toward achieving WHO Maturity Level 4.
