Residents of Dutse Obasanjo Road, near Mama Baby Street, were jolted on Sunday morning when a suspected thief was caught attempting to steal a condemned water drum in broad daylight.
The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. on August 10, attracting passersby and shop owners.
Witnesses said the suspect had been spotted loitering in the area in recent days, apparently scouting the property.
His luck ran out when he was caught red-handed trying to wheel the drum away.
A mob quickly formed, assaulting the suspect until a few bystanders intervened to stop the beating. He was eventually released but left visibly injured.
Authorities have not confirmed whether a formal complaint was filed.
Concerned residents are calling for stronger community security to deter similar incidents.
