Civic advocacy group MonITng has called on FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Senator Ireti Kingibe to urgently fix dilapidated schools in the Federal Capital Territory after 478 pupils reportedly dropped out due to unsafe learning conditions.
At LEA Primary School, Kurudu in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), pupils sit on bare floors in overcrowded classrooms with blown-off roofs, abandoned blocks, and no toilets or desks, conditions the group described as “unsafe and unfit for learning.”
LEA Primary School, Gyadna, also in AMAC, has crumbling walls, collapsed ceilings, and leaking roofs that have forced the closure of some classrooms, causing at least 223 pupils to leave.
MonITng said the situation reflects systemic neglect despite government claims of renovating over 60 FCT schools.
It urged immediate construction of new classroom blocks and full renovation of the worst-hit schools, warning that the dropout crisis violates children’s right to education and threatens the future of vulnerable communities.
