An altercation broke out at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Sunday after the arrival of an Ibom Air flight from Uyo.

According to eyewitnesses and videos circulating on social media, a visibly agitated female passenger engaged in a shouting match with airline staff before allegedly slapping a flight attendant. Security officials and airport police quickly intervened to restore order.

Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), said the incident stemmed from the passenger’s refusal to obey basic crew instructions, including switching off her mobile phone during takeoff and landing.

“Being a passenger comes with responsibilities, not just rights,” Achimugu stressed, urging travelers to comply with safety protocols to prevent similar confrontations.

He added that a full account of the incident would be released once investigations are complete.
