Octopuses

Octopuses have three hearts, two pump blood to the gills and one to the rest of the body.

Their blood is blue due to a copper-rich protein called hemocyanin, instead of the iron-based hemoglobin found in humans.

Webcam

The first webcam was invented at the University of Cambridge to monitor a coffee pot, so researchers could check if there was coffee before walking across the lab. It saved them the trip.

Elephants

Elephants think humans are cute. Research suggests elephants may look at us the same way we look at puppies. They find humans amusing and harmless.

Human gut

The human gut has its own nervous system called the enteric nervous system.

It’s sometimes referred to as the “second brain.” It contains over 100 million neurons and can operate independently of the brain.

Ancient Romans

Ancient Romans used urine as mouthwash. Roman dentists recommended rinsing the mouth with fermented human urine because of its ammonia content, which is a natural cleaning agent.
