Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has denied claims that he co-founded the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, stressing that he remains a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The rebuttal follows remarks allegedly made by Amaechi during a conversation on X Spaces on Saturday, where he reportedly claimed the ADC coalition “started with me and Fayemi in the house of Nasiru Danu with Salihu Mohammed and others.”

Amaechi allegedly said the coalition began as a small meeting initiated by Salihu Mohammed, a former APC national vice-chairman (North-West), and later expanded to include political figures such as Senator Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto State.

In a statement by his Head of Media, Mallam Yinka Sajoh, Fayemi dismissed the claim, noting there is no credible evidence or reputable media report to support it, nor any video footage verifying Amaechi’s alleged comments.

“In an era where distorted statements are often attributed to public figures, we remain cautious about engaging with controversies that may be fabricated or misquoted.

“We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis,” the statement read.

Fayemi reaffirmed his commitment to the APC’s progressive ideals, pledging continued support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s re-election bid and ongoing efforts to strengthen the party at both state and national levels.

He added that while he maintains cordial relationships across political, religious, and regional lines, such connections should not be misconstrued as political defection.
