Former House of Representatives member Hon. Oghene Egoh has faulted ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi’s criticism of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, describing his remarks as “in bad taste” and lacking moral justification.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Monday, Egoh noted that Amaechi, who once labelled the project fraudulent and vowed to cancel it if elected president, failed to deliver similar infrastructure during his tenure.
“Amaechi did not do enough for the South-South when he was Minister of Transportation,” said Egoh, who represented Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency and defected from the PDP to the APC in 2024. “Instead, he focused on building a railway to the Niger Republic, neglecting critical infrastructure in the Niger Delta.”
Egoh hailed the coastal road as a “transformational” project that would boost trade, enhance inter-state connectivity, and spur economic growth in the South-South and Lagos State.
He added that it would create jobs and promote national unity.
He also praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, as bold steps toward sustainable development.
While acknowledging current economic hardship, Egoh expressed optimism, citing stabilizing food prices and government support for local farmers.
“Hunger in the land is a temporary challenge,” he said. “What previous administrations could not achieve, President Tinubu is achieving.”
