Residents of Bwari Area Council in the FCT have received free reading glasses under the Federal Government’s nationwide programme to tackle presbyopia among adults aged 40 and above.

The initiative, implemented by the Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with partners and area councils, is part of President Bola Tinubu’s plan to distribute five million glasses nationwide.

Tagged “Effective Spectacle Coverage in Nigeria, Jigi Bola Phase II”, the programme screens adults for presbyopia and provides reading glasses tailored to their needs.

Dr. Ehiemere Goodluck, Programme Manager of the Eye Care Unit, FCT Public Health Department, said the exercise, which began in Abaji in March, had covered Abaji and AMAC before reaching Bwari.

“We have covered Bwari town, Dutse-Makaranta, and Dutse-Alhaji, and we will move to Mpape soon,” she stated.

Goodluck urged eligible residents to take advantage of the free screening and glasses.

One of the beneficiaries, Hajiya Saadatu Mustapha, praised the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention for the community.
