The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) community has been thrown into concern following the disappearance of a female student, with efforts to locate her intensifying since August 7, 2025.

According to the university’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju, the incident came to light at about 3 p.m. on Thursday, when the institution’s Security Unit began monitoring conversations on a students’ social media group after receiving an alert about the missing student.

By 6:10 p.m., a group of students from the Department of Chemistry, accompanied by the victim’s roommate identified as Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice from the Department of Agricultural Extension  formally reported the case to the Security Unit. The roommate was said to have raised the alarm after noticing her friend’s unexplained absence.

Given the sensitive nature of the situation and the limitations of the university’s security resources, Olanrewaju explained that three security officers were assigned to work alongside the concerned students, with instructions to relay their initial findings to the police for further investigation.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, praised the vigilance and quick action of the students, noting that their prompt report could be crucial in the ongoing search. He urged the police and other security agencies to deploy all necessary measures to locate the missing student, identified simply as Dorcas.

Bamire also made a public appeal for information, encouraging anyone with knowledge of her whereabouts to reach out to the nearest police station or contact the university’s Security Unit directly.
