Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has postponed the planned collection of his African Democratic Congress (ADC) membership card, fueling speculation over internal party moves and a possible political comeback by former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku, who recently left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) following prolonged internal disputes, was scheduled to officially receive his ADC membership card in his hometown of Jada, Adamawa State, on August 6. However, the event was abruptly put on hold indefinitely, with no official explanation from his camp.
Political watchers suggest the delay may be linked to rumoured efforts within the ADC to bring Jonathan into the 2027 presidential race, a move that could significantly alter the party’s internal power dynamics.
ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has strongly opposed the unfolding developments, accusing Atiku and other recent entrants of attempting to hijack the party. He described them as “impostors” and claimed they were undermining the party’s leadership through legal and political manoeuvres.
As the ADC grapples with these tensions, it remains unclear when Atiku will reschedule the card collection ceremony or if Jonathan’s rumoured return will reshape the party’s 2027 strategy.
