The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has dissolved its leadership and appointed Comrade Gbenga Adedamola as interim Chairman of a newly constituted National Transition Committee (NTC).
The decision, taken during an extraordinary management meeting in Abuja on August 7, 2025, followed an internal review that uncovered alleged criminal forgery, constitutional tampering, and questionable affiliations under the previous administration.
Among the findings was the reported alteration of provisions in the 2018 NYCN Constitution to unlawfully extend certain officials’ tenure.
The NTC, with a 60-day mandate, will oversee restructuring and reforms aimed at restoring credibility to the council.
The meeting, the council’s highest decision-making forum, was attended by heads of voluntary youth organisations, former NYCN presidents, government representatives, 24 state chapters, and 61 youth bodies.
The move signals a decisive step toward enforcing accountability and rebuilding the NYCN’s role as a credible voice for Nigerian youth.
