The Nigeria Police Force has refuted claims that activist Omoyele Sowore was tortured in custody, insisting his arrest was lawful and based on credible allegations of forgery and cyberstalking.

Force spokesperson DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said Sowore’s detention followed constitutional procedures and that he was granted bail within the required 48 hours.

He dismissed a viral photo showing Sowore with a bandaged arm as “misleading,” claiming the bandage was part of his personal belongings before arrest.

Adejobi further disclosed that Sowore declined independent medical examinations on two occasions while in custody, describing the torture allegations as “entirely false.”

He urged the public and media to fact-check before circulating such claims.

Sowore’s detention has drawn sharp criticism from his legal team, supporters, and rights groups, who accuse the authorities of political persecution.

Amnesty International condemned the arrest, calling for respect for human rights and freedom of expression in Nigeria.
