In a move to ease the burden of rising living costs, the Federal Government has disbursed the second tranche of the N35,000 wage award arrears to federal civil servants, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) confirmed today.
The payment, which represents a one-month installment of the five-month arrears, follows an initial payment made earlier this year. This latest disbursement brings the total paid to two months, with three months remaining.
A statement from the OAGF reassured civil servants that the government remains committed to fulfilling its obligations, dismissing “insinuations” that the payments had been abandoned. The wage award, a key component of the 2023 fuel subsidy removal palliative package, is designed to cushion the economic impact on public sector workers.
The OAGF’s Director of Press, Bawa Mokwa, affirmed the government’s resolve to continue paying the arrears in monthly installments until the outstanding balance is cleared. This ongoing support provides crucial relief for many families across the Federal Capital Territory.
