The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched the Abuja City Walk project; an ambitious urban renewal initiative inspired by Dubai’s iconic City Walk.
The development aims to transform Abuja into a premier destination for tourism, international business, and luxury living.
Speaking during the unveiling, Wike explained that the recent revocation of undeveloped plots, including those at the Abuja Technology Village, was necessary to recover lands misused for non-developmental purposes such as parking tankers.
He disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), has been signed with private investors, with the first phase of the City Walk scheduled for completion in 2026.
The project will feature a dynamic blend of entertainment, retail, residential, and diplomatic zones.
Addressing concerns over the revocation of land belonging to the University of Abuja, Wike clarified that only idle portions were affected.
He assured that the institution still retains over 4,000 hectares, while reallocated land will now support critical infrastructure projects.
The City Walk initiative has already begun attracting investor interest, with developers targeting areas like Jabi, Wuye, and Katampe, anticipating a surge in luxury real estate and service offerings.
To curb land speculation and fast-track delivery, the FCTA has vowed to strictly enforce development timelines going forward.
