A truck driver suspected of transporting vandalised street light poles has been apprehended by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Command.
The driver, whose name was not disclosed, was intercepted along a route to Kano before attempting to flee the scene.
FCT NSCDC Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, confirmed the incident on Tuesday in Abuja, stating that the truck, loaded with what appeared to be vandalised public infrastructure, was flagged down by the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), Crack Team.
“Rather than stop to give the needed explanation, the truck driver and his motor boy fled, abandoning the vehicle and its contents,” Odumosu said.
The suspicious escape prompted operatives to impound the truck and tow it to the command headquarters for further investigation.
Odumosu revealed that the command’s intelligence and investigations unit has been directed to trace the origin and ownership of the vandalised items and determine the level of the driver’s involvement in the act.
He warned that individuals involved in vandalism of public infrastructure would face the full wrath of the law.
