A suspected vandal, identified as Jamilu Adamu, was electrocuted while attempting to steal transformer cables in Chukuku village, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred shortly after power was restored to the community on the fateful day.

The suspect and an accomplice reportedly broke into the transformer enclosure to cut the cables when Adamu was electrocuted.

“Upon realising his partner had been electrocuted, the second suspect tried to escape but was apprehended by vigilante members,” one witness said.

“They came to remove the transformer cables. One of them was electrocuted instantly, while his colleague was caught while trying to escape.”

It was gathered that the community had only recently repaired the transformer two weeks earlier, after a previous case of cable theft.

A member of the local vigilante group, Ishaku Moses, confirmed the incident.

He said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital morgue, while the arrested suspect was handed over to security operatives in Kuje.

As of press time, the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, had yet to comment on the incident.
