The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has strongly condemned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), for what it described as a premature and insensitive re-election campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at a time when Nigerians are grappling with worsening economic and security conditions.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC criticized the APC for sponsoring unauthorized rallies and erecting campaign billboards nationwide, actions the party says violate the Electoral Act, which prohibits electioneering activities outside the official 150-day window before polls.

The statement also referenced a recent warning by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), against such premature campaigns.

According to the ADC, the APC’s actions are tone-deaf, coming at a time when the country is battling record inflation, soaring prices of basic goods, unaffordable transportation, and rising housing costs.

The party also noted the naira’s continued depreciation under the Tinubu administration, which has left millions of Nigerians struggling to afford daily necessities.

The ADC further criticized the federal government’s fiscal policies, accusing it of poor revenue performance and unsustainable borrowing.

The party highlighted that debt servicing now exceeds national revenue, an indication of what it described as economic mismanagement.

Security was another focal point of the ADC’s criticism, as the party pointed to a rise in violent attacks, kidnappings, and widespread insecurity.

It accused the APC of focusing on political survival rather than national stability and public welfare.

“The APC has abandoned governance for politicking,” the statement read. “At a time when Nigerians are crying out over hunger, insecurity, and economic hardship, the ruling party is obsessed with 2027.”

The ADC demanded the dismantling of what it called an “illegal campaign structure” and urged the APC to redirect its focus toward delivering on its promises.

It also pledged to continue engaging with citizens and defending democratic values in the lead-up to the next general election.
