Activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, is set to appear today at the IGP Monitoring Unit in Abuja over allegations of forgery and criminal defamation.

Sowore confirmed the summons Tuesday night, saying he would go to the Force Headquarters with fellow activists and “freedom fighters,” urging citizens and “voices of resistance” to join him.

On Facebook, he announced the launch of the #EgbetokunMustGo and #PoliceProtest campaigns, sparking fears of fresh protests in the capital.

The police invitation, dated August 5, follows a petition accusing Sowore of criminal defamation and forgery.

He had earlier asked to see the petition and the complainant’s identity, but the police insisted he appear in person for details to be disclosed.
