Nigeria has officially secured the hosting rights for the 2nd African School Games scheduled for 2027.

The announcement was confirmed in a letter dated August 5, from Mustapha Berraf, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), to Habu Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).

Nigeria clinched the bid to host the continental event during ANOCA’s Extraordinary Executive Committee Meeting, where the country’s proven track record in organizing international sporting events and its robust infrastructure were cited as key factors.

“We are confident that the 2027 edition will not only uphold the values and objectives of the African School Games but also match or surpass the success of the maiden edition held in 2025,” Berraf stated.

ANOCA expressed full confidence in Nigeria’s ability to deliver a world-class event, commending the nation’s commitment, hospitality, and organizational capacity.

In response, Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission, expressed immense pride in the country’s achievement.

He emphasized that the hosting rights reflect Nigeria’s rising profile in global sports and the government’s unwavering support for youth and grassroots development.

The 2027 African School Games are expected to attract young athletes from across the continent, further strengthening unity, sportsmanship, and talent development in Africa.
