The Federal Government has issued a five-day flood alert, warning that 19 states across Nigeria may be affected by heavy rainfall and rising water levels.
In a joint statement on Monday, the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said flash floods are likely between Tuesday and Saturday.
States at risk include Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Delta, Anambra, Kogi, and Cross River.
Residents in low-lying areas have been urged to stay alert and prepare for possible evacuation.
Authorities also advised state and local governments to activate emergency response systems and clear blocked drainages to reduce the impact.
Farmers and commuters were cautioned to monitor weather updates and avoid flood-prone routes and farmlands during the warning period.
