Betty Anyanwu‑Akeredolu, widow of the late Ondo State governor Rotimi Akeredolu, has endorsed Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on August 4, 2025, she described Obi as “principled and frugal,” applauding his pledge to serve only one term if elected.
She likened him to Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew, commending his vision for long-term national transformation over prolonged political power.
The former First Lady expressed confidence that Obi’s focused leadership could lay a solid foundation for Nigeria’s future.
Her endorsement has stirred mixed reactions, with supporters praising her for backing reform-oriented leadership, while critics questioned her motives, citing her past ties to the ruling APC.
Mrs. Akeredolu’s support adds a notable voice from within Nigeria’s political elite to Obi’s 2027 campaign momentum.
