The Acting Director-General of the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Maintenance Department (FEMD), Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, has emphasized the need to engage only qualified professionals in building projects within the FCT.
Mohammed made the call while reacting to the recent collapse of a three-storey building under construction in the Life Camp area of Abuja on Saturday.
“This is the rainy season; builders must check the foundations of their structures and quickly correct any anomalies,” he advised.
The Acting DG also warned against the use of substandard and counterfeit building materials, stressing that such practices have significantly contributed to structural failures across the country.
He commended FEMD’s stakeholders, especially construction companies, for their swift response during emergencies.
According to a report by Abuja Metro, the collapsed building trapped three individuals. Two were rescued immediately, while the third victim was pulled out hours later with a broken leg.
