The Anambra State Government has dismissed allegations that officials demanded bribes for awarding contracts, describing the claims as false and malicious.
Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said in a statement that all contracts in the state follow due process and procurement laws.
He said the claims were aimed at spreading fear and undermining public trust.
Addressing a case in Nnewi North, Mefor clarified that ₦100 million was a performance bond given to a contractor, while ₦40 million was a refund from a terminated project that failed to meet standards.
Nnewi North Mayor, Echezona Anazodo, also denied the allegations, insisting only vetted and qualified companies are awarded contracts. He said the government remains committed to transparency and timely project delivery.
The government warned media houses and individuals peddling false reports to desist, noting that legal action awaits those who persist.
