A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, has remanded a 32-year-old man, Abdulganiyu Kabir, in prison custody for allegedly assaulting his tailor over a delayed pair of trousers.
The incident, which occurred on July 22, led to a three-count charge against Kabir, including assault, mischief, and resisting arrest.
According to the prosecution, Kabir attacked the tailor, Ahmed Suleiman, after he failed to deliver the trousers on time. During the altercation, Kabir allegedly beat Suleiman and tore his clothes.
The situation escalated further when police officers attempted to arrest Kabir at the Trademore Police Station, where he reportedly resisted and headbutted an inspector, causing injury.
Kabir pleaded not guilty to the charges. His counsel, Helen Akpala, urged the court to grant bail, citing the presumption of innocence.
However, the prosecution opposed the application, describing the defendant’s actions as a grave threat to public order.
Presiding Magistrate Abubakar Sadiq directed the defense to file a formal bail application and adjourned the case to September 16. Kabir is to remain in custody pending the next hearing.
