Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said it is unrealistic to expect a complete transformation of the FCT within two years.

Speaking during a recent media parley, Wike defended the pace of his administration’s reforms, stressing that sustainable development must prioritize quality over speed.

He dismissed the public’s fixation on numbers, particularly in the education sector, arguing that quality remains paramount.

“I would prefer to have three universities where we can talk about quality, rather than just increasing the number,” he said.

He applied the same principle to healthcare, insisting it is impossible to fully equip hospitals across all districts in just two years.

Wike acknowledged the disorder in the FCT’s transport system, describing it as “chaotic,” but assured that plans are underway to restore order.

He emphasized that governance is a gradual process that requires long-term planning rather than quick fixes.

Responding to concerns over the perceived silence of his mandate secretaries, Wike dismissed the criticism and cautioned the media against dictating how his administration should engage with the public.

He maintained that he exercises strict oversight of his appointees and all project approvals.

To showcase ongoing progress, Wike revealed plans to inaugurate rehabilitated schools soon, a move he said would reflect concrete improvements in the FCT’s education system.
