Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has addressed his recent meeting with Labour Party factional chairman, Julius Abure, saying it was a routine political engagement and not out of place.
Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Monday, Wike dismissed speculations, stating:
“You said Abure came to visit me. Of course, he is a politician and I’m a politician. What is wrong when politicians meet each other?”
When asked if the meeting was connected to the 2027 general elections, Wike declined to offer specifics.
“Why would I tell you what I’m planning for 2027? You’ll know when the time comes,” he said.
Abure, during his party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), meeting in Abuja on July 22, 2025, also clarified the purpose of the meeting.
“Last week, I met with the FCT Minister, and it attracted a lot of comments, misconceptions, and talk about the photographs,” Abure explained.
He emphasized that the visit was personal, not political.
“I live in the FCT, and Nyesom Wike is the Minister. As a Nigerian, I have the right to interface with any public officer in the federal government. It was a privileged, private meeting,” he stated.
