Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has stirred controversy after threatening to kill a Nigerian X user in a now-deleted tweet.
The threat came in response to an offensive comment directed at his mother, Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, a former First Lady of Kaduna State.
The incident followed Hadiza’s remarks on X about Nigerian Americans and the U.S. travel ban under former President Donald Trump.
In her post, she praised the contributions of Igbo Nigerians abroad, writing, “A great percentage of these Nigerian Americans making us proud abroad are Igbos. There’s always two sides to every story.”
Her tweet drew mixed reactions, prompting her to issue a follow-up: “No cyberbully can take away my right to express my opinion.
Not everything is about politics, but that is something some of you will never understand.”
An X user, @jussstice09, responded with the comment, “You no go die well ma,” which sparked outrage from Bashir El-Rufai. He replied, “If you ever utter that phrase to my mother again & delete that tweet, I am going to find you (it’s easier than you think) and unalive you and your family.”
Mr El-Rufai’s comment was quickly deleted, and he did not respond to inquiries from Peoples Gazette.
The tweet has drawn widespread condemnation and raised concerns over his history of incendiary statements online.
Earlier in March, he faced backlash after threatening increased bloodshed in Southern Kaduna if attacks on Fulani people continued; a post he later deleted and apologized for.
He also once mocked Nigerians demanding justice for missing government critic Abubakar ‘Dadiyatta’ Idris, saying his disappearance was a “good consequence” for lying to the public.
Bashir El-Rufai remains a polarizing figure on social media for his aggressive tone and controversial views.
