Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has stated that the prospect of an Igbo presidency in 2027 is unrealistic, urging the South-East to instead rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election as a pathway to future political inclusion.

In a personally signed statement issued to journalists on Monday, Umahi warned against what he described as “darkening counsel without knowledge”, deceptive narratives aimed at convincing the region that the presidency would shift to the South-East in the next election cycle.

“We must not be deceived again. Mr. President must have the votes of the South-East up to 90 percent to cement this relationship,” he said. “Enough of darkening counsel without knowledge in the South-East.”

Umahi emphasized that sustained and visible support for President Tinubu, whom he described as showing “unwavering love and fairness” to the region is essential to building a viable path for the South-East to attain the presidency in the future.

He commended governors and political leaders from the region for their developmental efforts and encouraged the people to back them, along with President Tinubu, for second terms in office.

“We must support other regions, and with God, one day, other regions will support us,” he added. “Mr. President must be supported to complete his eight-year tenure, which all regions are benefitting from.”

Reaffirming his stance, Umahi vowed to resist any attempt to mislead the South-East with false political promises.

He called for unity, education, and strategic alliances over sentiments, describing them as necessary tools for long-term political relevance.
