Six law students from the Nigerian Law School who were kidnapped while traveling from Anambra State to Adamawa State have been safely rescued, the Benue State Police Command has confirmed.

According to a statement released on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, the students were abducted on July 26, 2025, as they passed through the volatile Benue-Taraba boundary region. They were en route to attend classes at the Yola Campus of the Nigerian Law School when the kidnappers intercepted their vehicle.

The police spokesperson stated, “We are pleased to announce that all six abducted law students have been successfully recovered and reunited with their families as of the morning of August 1, 2025.”

The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of 120 million naira and threatened to execute the students if their demands were not met. This incident underscores the growing security challenges in Benue State, where violent abductions have become increasingly frequent.

This recent kidnapping echoes a similar event last year, when 20 medical students traveling to the University of Jos were abducted along the Otukpo-Otukpa-Enugu route in Benue. Those students were also held captive for weeks before being freed.

The Benue State Police, along with other security agencies, continue to intensify efforts to combat kidnapping and restore safety to vulnerable travelers across the region.
