The Federal Government has commenced reconstruction of the collapsed Keffi Flyover in Nasarawa State, a critical link between the FCT and the North-Central region. This move follows a settlement with the families of the three victims who died in the July 4 incident. Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, confirmed that one carriageway has been closed for urgent repairs, with a structural assessment completed to prevent future hazards.
Umahi also announced that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved funding and revisions for several key road and bridge projects across the country. To enhance transparency, state engineering chambers will now assist in monitoring federal road projects within their domains. The Minister highlighted strategic projects that have either begun or received significant funding, including the Abuja-Kano Road, Enugu-Onitsha Road, and the Nembe-Brass Road, among others.
Significant new projects and revisions were also approved. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway (Sections 4A and 4B) received a ₦1.65 trillion approval, while the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway was approved at a total of ₦2.83 trillion across two sections. Other notable revisions include the Biu-Numa Road and the dualization of the Maraba-Keffi Road. Umahi pledged to publish a comprehensive list of all projects in the coming weeks.
