President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, by one year beyond his initial August 31, 2025 retirement date.

The presidency said the extension would enable Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and deliver on key Customs initiatives.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, “The extension will allow Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key initiatives under Tinubu’s administration.”

Adeniyi is expected to continue spearheading major projects such as the modernisation of the NCS, implementation of the National Single Window project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The presidency expressed Tinubu’s confidence in Adeniyi’s leadership, saying the president appreciates his “steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” and expects the extension to further strengthen trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.

Adeniyi was first appointed in an acting capacity in June 2023 and confirmed in October of the same year.
