Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s failure to provide credible leadership and good governance.

In a letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA of Kogi State, Melaye said, “I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement.”

He blamed the PDP for lacking the strength and vision to rescue Nigeria from deep-rooted political problems, stating the party no longer aligns with his conscience. “This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” the letter read in part.

Melaye, who was the PDP’s governorship candidate in Kogi’s 2023 election, noted that after deep reflection, he could no longer support the party’s direction. He also asked that his exit be considered total and immediate from all party structures.

“Please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect,” he wrote.

He ended the letter by thanking the PDP for the chance to serve under its platform.
