The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cleared Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai to remain in their current political parties, Labour Party (LP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This clarification comes amid speculation that the ADC was set to admit the two political heavyweights. However, interim National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi stated in a phone interview that their continued stay in LP and SDP is acceptable as part of ongoing coalition efforts.
The ADC is currently working to form a mega political alliance capable of challenging the ruling parties in 2027, seeking to unite progressive forces under a common agenda.
Interim National Chairman David Mark also issued a stern warning to party members, emphasizing zero tolerance for anti-party activities or indiscipline. “You are either in ADC or not. No midway,” he declared during a meeting in Abuja.
Despite the tough rhetoric, the ADC leadership says the exemption granted to Obi and El-Rufai aligns with broader coalition strategies to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape while maintaining mutual respect across party lines.
