Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, received top political figures from the opposition into the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former PDP State Chairman Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele and ex-deputy governorship candidate Hon. Abdulkabir Akinlade.
The defection, which took place at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta, saw key leaders and members from the PDP and APM officially join the APC. Governor Abiodun described their move as a “homecoming” and assured them of equal treatment and full integration into the party.
Among those who defected were Hon. Luqmon Atobatele (Abeokuta South Constituency I), Hon. Idowu Olowofuja (former House of Assembly member), Hon. Rotimi Rahman (ex-Local Government Commission Chairman), Dr. Mojeed Ekelojumati (former aide to ex-governors), and numerous ward and local government officials.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Akinlade said their decision was collective and aimed at contributing to the progress of Ogun under a performing government. Ogundele added that the PDP no longer aligned with their political goals, hence their move to the APC.
The event ended with the new members being handed the APC flag and officially registered into the party.
