Prof. Barns Achakpa Ikyo and his wife, Dr. Patience Achakpa Ikyo, returned in thanksgiving to God on recently, during a special service held at NKST Ugbema, Katsina-Ala LGA, Benue State, to mark their service milestones – 10 years at CEFTER and 5 years at Benue Television, respectively.

The event, themed “Testament of Service,” was held in gratitude for what the couple described as God’s abundant mercy and favour in their lives and careers.

Speaking at the thanksgiving, Prof. Ikyo, a respected academic and the founding Director of the Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER), said, “I’m happy because I built CEFTER. I was given a responsibility to plan and develop, and we’ve grown from one room to a massive complex with 22 offices, 10 classrooms, one auditorium, and six factories.”

He revealed that over 1,000 graduates have been trained at the Centre, including international students, earning global recognition and attracting over $5 million in new grants to continue its impact.

His wife, Dr. Patience Achakpa Ikyo, Director General of Benue Television, described the success of putting the station on air as Benue’s greatest media achievement.

“For 20 years, Benue tried to have a functioning TV station. It finally happened five years ago.

“Despite poor funding, limited staff, and inadequate equipment, we overcame the odds. I thank Governor Hyacinth Alia for giving me the opportunity,” she said.

The thanksgiving coincided with the 20th anniversary of the NKST Ugbema church.

The couple, along with friends, associates, government officials, and traditional rulers, contributed millions of naira toward the church’s development.

Notable dignitaries in attendance included the Tor Jemgbagh; Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Denen Aondoakaa; BIRS Chairman, Hon. Joseph Kwahgba; MD/CEO of Benue Geo-Mining Company Ltd, Dr. Erdoo Mongol-Aga; BIRS Secretary Hon. Ushahemba Dekaa; BIPC Secretary Hon. Terna Ioryoosu; and other government appointees.

Academics from CEFTER, the Mass Communications and Physics Departments of MOAU, staff of Benue TV, clergy, and alumni of Mkar Old Students Association also graced the occasion.

In his sermon, Rev. Prof. Usue urged Christians to remember their family, church, and God, commending the celebrants for staying connected to their roots.

The couple also launched the inaugural edition of a magazine titled “Testament of Service,” which highlights the achievements of impactful leaders in public and private service, starting with their own inspiring stories.
