Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Sunday, July 27, 2025, for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he is representing Nigeria at the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit. The high-level international gathering is scheduled to take place from July 27 to 29, 2025.

In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Shettima affirmed that his participation underscores Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to global conversations aimed at overhauling food systems and enhancing international collaboration on food security.

The summit, building on the inaugural event held in 2021, will assess global progress made thus far while intensifying efforts toward building food systems that are resilient, inclusive, and responsive to climate challenges.

Vice President Shettima’s robust schedule includes participation in various strategic sessions, notably one focused on advancing the coffee value chain and another on sustainable agricultural development. He is also slated to engage in key ministerial roundtables and immersive field visits, alongside networking events designed to showcase practical models of food systems transformation from around the world.

His itinerary further comprises high-level meetings centered on critical areas such as public financing, international trade, and responsible investment – sectors deemed pivotal to driving sustainable reforms in agriculture and food policy, particularly across the African continent. Nigeria’s active involvement at the summit is expected to highlight its dedication to addressing food security challenges and fostering agricultural growth.
