President Tinubu Mourns “Intellectual Giant” Prof. Jonah Elaigwu at 77

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Professor Jonah Elaigwu, the distinguished Director-General of the Institute for Governance and Social Research (IGSR), who passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the age of 77.

In a heartfelt condolence message issued on Thursday, President Tinubu eulogized the late Professor Elaigwu as an “intellectual giant” and a “patriot committed to national development and unity.” The President highlighted Elaigwu’s significant and lasting impact on Nigeria’s governance landscape through his extensive work on federalism and public policy.

Professor Elaigwu, a renowned scholar of political science, was a highly respected voice on critical issues concerning federalism, conflict management, and national integration in Nigeria. His death is widely regarded as a substantial loss to both Nigeria’s academic community and its public service sector.

President Tinubu offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Professor Elaigwu’s soul and extended his deepest condolences to his grieving family and associates during this time of immense loss.
