The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially named Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as its new National Chairman, marking a significant leadership transition within the ruling party.

His emergence was confirmed on Thursday, July 24, 2025, following the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.  Yilwatda, a former governorship candidate of the APC in Plateau State and currently the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, received unanimous endorsement from party leaders and stakeholders present at the crucial meeting.

Yilwatda succeeds Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down from the chairmanship amidst mounting internal pressure and calls for leadership restructuring within the party.

Reacting to his emergence, Yilwatda pledged to reposition the APC for greater unity, discipline, and resounding victory in future elections. “I accept this responsibility with humility and a strong desire to build a party that truly reflects the will of the people,” he stated.

The high-stakes meeting was attended by key figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and several APC governors, all of whom pledged their support for the new leadership.

Yilwatda’s appointment comes at a critical juncture for the APC, as the party prepares to consolidate its hold on power and strategize ahead of the 2027 general elections.4 His background, blending academic, bureaucratic, and political experience, is seen by some party insiders as a move to give the APC a fresh face and restore credibility.
