The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy has lauded the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) for its indispensable contribution to fostering national connectivity, recognizing it as a cornerstone for Nigeria’s digital aspirations.
Mr. Rafiu Adeladan, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, delivered this commendation on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, during a courtesy visit to NIGCOMSAT’s Managing Director, Ms. Jane Egerton-Idehen, at the agency’s Ground Control Station in Abuja.
Adeladan described NIGCOMSAT as a “strategic partner” vital for actualizing Nigeria’s goals in space technology, broad broadband access, and digital sovereignty. He acknowledged the agency’s significant role in propelling the nation’s burgeoning digital economy. The Permanent Secretary assured NIGCOMSAT of the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to addressing existing challenges through enhanced collaboration and targeted policy reviews.
In response, Ms. Egerton-Idehen expressed her appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed NIGCOMSAT’s strategic importance to the country. She underscored Nigeria’s immense potential in space technology and urged the Ministry to prioritize Project 774, an initiative aimed at providing broadband and digital services nationwide, particularly to all 774 local government secretariats. She also called for attention to be given to structural challenges impeding NIGCOMSAT’s growth and operational efficiency.
This development signals a renewed focus on strategic collaboration and innovation within Nigeria’s digital economy sector, with the Ministry pledging to explore practical solutions within the country’s regulatory and fiscal frameworks to bolster NIGCOMSAT’s operations and facilitate its continued expansion.
