The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to mitigating the negative impact of transportation on the environment by promoting a sustainable transport system.

The visit, led by Engr. Dr. Remi Adewumi, took place at the Ministry of Transportation Headquarters in Abuja.
Describing transportation as the “indispensable oxygen in the life of every society,” the minister emphasized that the government is taking deliberate steps to address sustainability concerns within the sector.
“In pursuit of its mandate, the FMOT has undertaken certain measures to overcome some of the challenges bedevilling sustainable transport in the country,” Alkali said, adding that environmental costs of modern transport demand urgent reforms.
He praised NITT, Zaria, as Nigeria’s “citadel of transport technology,” stating that the Ministry would continue to leverage its expertise for sectoral improvement.
Encouraging the students to be diligent in their studies, the minister noted, “The decisions we make today will shape the future of transportation, the environment, and our communities for generations to come.”
Earlier, Dr. Adewumi, who represented NITT’s Director General, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, said the field trip was designed to expose students to the practical realities of Nigeria’s transport challenges, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory.
He stressed that while classroom knowledge is important, hands-on experience is vital in developing strategic management skills.
He also advised students to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the study exercise.
