The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed, has issued a stern warning to officers involved in bribery, corruption, drug abuse, and unprofessional conduct, vowing to take decisive action against any form of misconduct within the Corps.

Speaking at the 2025 Half-Year Strategy Session held Wednesday in Abuja, Mohammed emphasized the need for integrity, discipline, and accountability among personnel. The session, themed “Driving Change from Within: Reinforcing Integrity, Accountability, and Performance,” brought together commanding officers from across the country to reassess internal operations and chart a new course for the agency.

According to the Corps Marshal, internal reports have revealed significant challenges in enforcement operations stemming from patrol misconduct, poor command oversight, absenteeism, and rising cases of incivility toward motorists. He warned that these behaviors are undermining the Corps’ mandate and eroding public trust.

“These issues have created deep concerns among Nigerians, who expect us to uphold the highest standards of service and professionalism,” Mohammed said. “As we meet for this critical strategy session, our conversations must be focused on finding sustainable solutions to reposition the Corps for greater accountability and excellence.”

He stressed the importance of aligning the agency’s mission with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which aims to enhance citizens’ welfare and ensure safer highways nationwide.

Mohammed also called for stronger leadership across commands, urging officers to enforce discipline, follow the chain of command, and actively address the ethical decline within the Corps.

“We must confront the culture of compromise head-on and restore the integrity of our operations. Absenteeism, apathy, and duty abandonment must be addressed firmly, while exemplary performance and accountability should be rewarded,” he stated.

He further urged commanding officers to identify shifts in staff behavior, apply necessary disciplinary actions, and adapt strategies to improve operational efficiency even with limited resources. Strengthening partnerships with state governments and key stakeholders was also highlighted as essential to supporting critical safety initiatives.

The Corps Marshal concluded by reaffirming management’s commitment to driving change from within and ensuring the FRSC remains a model of professionalism and service delivery.
