Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has faulted comments made by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo against Peter Obi, saying any “threat” to the ex-Labour Party presidential candidate is a threat to the entire opposition.
Okpebholo had warned that Obi must not enter Edo again without security clearance, linking his recent visit to a security breach that led to three deaths. The remark, made at a public event on Friday, drew backlash, with many accusing the governor of trying to intimidate opponents.
Reacting, the governor’s spokesman, Fred Itua, denied any threat, insisting Okpebholo only stressed that “politically exposed persons” must seek clearance to ensure safety of residents and visitors.
Atiku, showing solidarity, said: “Let it be known that a threat against Peter Obi or any of us is a threat against ALL of us!”
