Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the state leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have backed President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027.
Reports had earlier claimed Adeleke planned to dump the PDP after consultations with party leaders, who promised to follow him to any party. However, his move to the APC was rejected by key Osun APC members, with many openly criticising him.
A stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday at the Government House, Osogbo, resolved that Adeleke and the PDP would stay in the party and support Tinubu.
A communiqué signed by Adeleke, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Speaker Adewale Egbedun, former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and 24 others stressed the role of grassroots politics in their decision. It clarified that the defection plan didn’t originate from Adeleke and that PDP members had chosen to stand by him out of loyalty.
The statement added: “The PDP in Osun State recognises Osun as the ancestral home of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, making him a son of the state. We hereby adopt and endorse him for re-election in 2027.”
The party also reaffirmed Adeleke’s candidacy for the 2026 governorship election, directing members to spread the resolution across all party structures while urging the governor to continue with his Five-Point Agenda.
