President Bola Tinubu has attributed his 2023 election victory to the blessings of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, and expressed confidence in securing a second term.
Speaking at the eight-day Fidau prayer held at Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Tinubu recalled the monarch’s prophetic support.
“I thank God that I stand before you as president. I was successful because of your support and the blessing of the late Awujale. He told me, ‘O o tun wole ekan si’ (you will win a second term),” Tinubu said.
He described Adetona as a symbol of conscience and dignity, lauding his contribution to the June 12 struggle and commending Governor Dapo Abiodun for supporting the monarch until his passing.
Tinubu, who conferred the GCON award on Adetona during his 90th birthday last year, said he was grateful for celebrating the monarch while alive and urged Nigerians to emulate his values.
Oba Adetona died hours after the passing of his longtime friend, former President Muhammadu Buhari.
