Amid swirling rumours about Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s health, aides and family members have come forward to deny reports that the former APC National Chairman and ex-Governor of Kano State is critically ill and receiving treatment in a London hospital.
In an exclusive interview on Monday, Ganduje’s Chief of Staff and former Kano State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Mohammed Garba, confirmed that although the 75-year-old politician is currently in London, his condition is stable.
“He is fine. At his age, it’s not unusual to experience minor health issues, but claims that he is in critical condition are completely false,” Garba stated.
Garba added that Ganduje has been in the UK since the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which explains his absence at the funeral. “We spoke with him just last night. There’s no cause for alarm. Anyone can fall sick, but as far as I know, his health is stable,” he said.
He assured the public that if Ganduje were seriously ill, his team would inform supporters so they could offer prayers.
A family source, speaking anonymously, echoed this sentiment. “I haven’t spoken to him directly, but I’ve been in touch with people close to him in London, and there’s nothing to suggest his condition is serious. We’re just seeing these rumours online like everyone else,” the source said.
Ganduje stepped down as APC National Chairman in 2023, citing health concerns. However, his subsequent appointment as Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) raised questions about the true reason for his resignation, with some speculating political motivations tied to rival Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
