The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has faulted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for failing to appoint ambassadors, warning that the diplomatic vacuum is hurting Nigeria’s global standing.

In a statement issued by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said Nigeria has lacked full representation in foreign missions since Tinubu recalled 109 ambassadors in 2023.

“This inaction has left Nigeria absent from key international platforms where vital decisions are being made,” the ADC said.

The party added that the continued absence of ambassadors is weakening ties with countries like the United States and the United Arab Emirates, affecting consular services and reducing Nigeria’s influence abroad.

The ADC also condemned the handling of a recent diplomatic spat involving a U.S. request for Nigeria to accept deported Venezuelans, saying the Foreign Minister’s public remarks were unprofessional.

It called on President Tinubu to urgently appoint ambassadors to protect Nigeria’s interests and restore its presence in the international arena.
